Binance launches a Safety Campaign in Kenya, using everyday road safety habits to educate users on crypto security and reinforce trust in digital finance.
Binance has launched a nationwide Safety Campaign in Kenya aimed at simplifying crypto security concepts by anchoring them in familiar, everyday safety habits. The campaign was officially unveiled yesterday in Nairobi, bringing together boda boda riders, safety advocates, local leaders, media, and members of the crypto community.
At the heart of the activation was a practical road safety intervention: the distribution of helmets and reflective gear to boda boda riders. The gesture addressed a pressing safety need while serving as a metaphor for digital protection. Just as helmets reduce physical risk on busy Kenyan roads, Binance emphasized that strong security measures are essential for safeguarding users in the digital financial ecosystem.
Speaking at the event, Saruni Maina, Regional Operations Lead at Binance Africa, said the campaign was designed to make crypto security relatable and accessible. He noted that safety is not optional, whether on the road or online, adding that Binance’s secure platform enables users to engage with digital finance confidently while maintaining control over their assets.
Boda boda riders, who face daily risks while earning a living, were central to the campaign’s messaging. Binance highlighted that, like protective gear, digital security tools help reduce exposure to loss and fraud. The company outlined the measures it employs to protect users, including encryption, multi-factor authentication, withdrawal controls, and continuous system monitoring.
The campaign also leaned into familiar Kenyan routines to drive its message home—charging a phone before leaving the house, confirming a matatu fare, or setting an early alarm. These habits, Binance noted, mirror the small but critical steps users should take to stay safe online, such as securing accounts and verifying transactions.
Calvince Okumu, President of the Digital Boda Drivers and Deliveries Association of Kenya, welcomed the initiative, saying it addressed both immediate physical safety needs and longer-term digital awareness. He emphasized that many riders struggle to afford proper safety gear, making the helmet distribution impactful, while the education around digital income protection resonated strongly with the community.
Beyond the launch event, Binance plans to extend the Safety Campaign across digital platforms through localized social media content, educational videos, influencer collaborations, and community engagement. The broader goal is to build trust and confidence in crypto adoption by ensuring users understand both the opportunities and responsibilities that come with participating in the digital economy.
By linking road safety with crypto security, Binance’s Safety Campaign in Kenya delivers a clear message: preparedness and protection are essential. Whether navigating Nairobi’s streets or the world of digital finance, being informed and secure makes all the difference.
